What we do
Braking Away Irish Cycling Tours are delighted to support the Irish Youth Foundation Charity Cycle 2022. In 2021 our riders raised over €92,000 during our Mizen to Malin cycle and this year we hope to raise even more. In the last 31 years, the Irish Youth Foundation has raised over €20 million and supported more than 2,000 projects on the island of Ireland, reaching 50,000 of our most disadvantaged children and young people directly. We are committed to supporting them in any way we can.
We have designed a fully supported 6-day tour that will be appealing to cyclists of all levels. In keeping with the challenging nature of previous international charity cycling events for the IYF, we have chosen the home of Cycling, Italy, for 2022.
We will cycle in groups of eight and each group will have a dedicated cycle guide. We have support vehicles on the road packed with snacks and refreshments and the tour will have a paramedic travelling with the group . We intend to have two coffee/pit stops and a sit down lunch on each stage.
All our hotels are hand picked to ensure you have the finest food and facilities. We will take care of all luggage transfers and check ins. All lunch/dinner and snacks are covered in your entry fee. So all you have to do is turn up and enjoy the ride.

It came about when founder, Gordon Geraghty decided to combine his life long passion for cycling with his exceptional project management skills. Adding to that his personal experience in organising cycling tours across Europe, Braking Away Irish Cycling Tours was born.

Danny Dowdall
Danny is our paramedic for the Milan to Rome trip. Danny is a massive Dub’s fan, a true blue. Danny is loved by all our crew for his positivity and helpful attitude. He is an absolute gem. Danny is on board to ensure all aches and pains are looked after and will be overseeing the safety off all riders.
Don Samway
Meet Mr. Nice Guy, Don. But don't be fooled by that smile. Don is an extremely competitive racer. Don’s name is well known on the Irish Racing circuit. He has been racing since he was a teenager and has some great stage wins under his belt.
But don't worry, now Don is happiest when he is on his bike and sharing his experience and knowledge with others. And truthfully, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Willie Dowdall
Meet your commanding officer. Willie has spent 25 years in the Irish Army and runs ultra marathons before breakfast. He’s a stickler for time keeping and will be making sure that both cyclists and crew appear on the parade ground each morning. But you can stand at ease. He is a brilliant guy and is here to help you all the way to the finish line.

Iain Dunne
Meet Iain. He is here purely to annoy the rest of the crew. Something he mastered on our crew recce. Iain is not a fan of cyclists. In fact, I have no idea why we even invited him along. No wait, I remember now. Iain is one of the brightest, funniest and most supportive people we have ever met. Even if Iain thinks cyclists wear nappies, you’ll have to be nice to him, he is in charge of the food and drink stops.
